Ubuntu 9.10 release

Posted by: karthikselvakumar on: November 1, 2009

Ubuntu 9.10
Ubuntu is a free open source software distributing free cd’s all around the world as every one knows ,

by the past ubuntu release 9.04 Im really sucked up , I had to install everything from Sound driver to configuring my webcam

But this release made my installation as simple as eating a cake , Every hardware

i) hp laserjet printer 1020 plus
ii) Microdia webcam
iii) gigaget sound driver
iv) Mesa graphics driver
v) network

all drivers have been automatically installed at end of installation :D

note :

Please plugin all your available hardware to pc when you start installation

bcoz its little harder in post installation

And finally Im surprised by the option MOBILE BROADBAND at network connection which makes gprs connection through mobile far far easier than windows

Next as a new feature Pidgin had video and voice chat for gtalk as well as file transfer support ( The main reason why I switch onto windows is no more :P )

Above all GAMING is major reason why windows is still in many box , here comes an end , CEDEGA supports 3d acceleration in ubuntu 9.10 that made my games faster and reduced pixelation when i play

but thing is i dont know to crack ( as we usually do ) in cedega :( so u can use only genuine cd’s

If you are still stuck with windows and cant change out abruptly then try wine or cross over ( if you can really afford such a huge amount )

Im pleased to use Ubuntu 9.10 as early as its released and really its far better than 9.04 with many bugs fixed up

I have a microdia cam (enter night view cam) – `lsusb’ displays it as MICRODIA vendor: 0c45:614a. The cam is not getting detected properly on Ubuntu 9.10 (no entry in /dev/video). Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Mahesh

Run the commands in console one by one

sudo echo deb http://blognux.free.fr/ubuntu hardy main >> /etc/apt/sources.list

sudo echo deb-src http://blognux.free.fr/ubuntu hardy main >> /etc/apt/sources.list

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install easycam2-gtk

after installation is over you can see easycam in Accessories

Plugin the web cam and Install driver from easycam

This should work ;)

Hi,

I tried this, and easycam gives a message
“No camera or no compatible camera found”.

I have a frontech webcam and lsusb shows

Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0c45:614a Microdia

There is no /dev/video file. Does it mean that I will never be able to use this camera on my ubuntu hardy installation?

Thanks.

are you using hardy heron still?

try moving on to karmic it has driver for microdia in default

” But remember to plug in web cam during start of installation in any of the free usb ports ”

or else if you cant switch over to 9.10 have you tried gspca ?

Hi…
When I run: “sudo apt-get install easycam2-gtk” appears:
easycam2-gtk: Depende: python2.4-glade2 mas não é instalável
Depende: python2.4-gtk2 mas não é instalável
Depende: easycam2-core mas não vai ser instalado”
It says that I need to install python2.4… etc
Why?
What can I do?
Thanks
Tiago

I am using last ubuntu – karmic koala

By the way… I have 2 webcams:
Trust Mini 1200p: ID 093a:2468
NGS SpinCam: ID 0402:5603
thanks

Try installing the dependencies python2.4 glade and resume if still

errors arise then try force install by downlaoding the packages from

http://blognux.free.fr/ubuntu/dists/hardy/main/binary-i386/

and run

sudo dpkg –force-depends -i easycam2-core.deb
sudo dpkg –force-depends -i easycam2-gtk.deb

for more reference see

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1136990

If you feel tedious in doing this a simple way i can stress is

i) connect your webcam
ii) see whether internet is on
iii) reinstall karmic

It worked for me …

it will search and install drivers automatically rather you connect your hardware after installation ,

If you still get errors you can feel free to ask at anytime

Thank you

hi guys..
i got partially(40% i guess) working driver using “v4l-dvb”..
no lights,output is distorted…
this is due to same bridge but diffrent sensor

Quote:
u need to modify the sonixj.c in v4l-dvb\linux\drivers\media\video\gspca
{USB_DEVICE(0x0c45, 0×6148), BSI(SN9C120, OM6802, 0×34)
this line should be changed to
{USB_DEVICE(0x0c45, 0x614a), BSI(SN9C120, OM6802, 0×34)
here the bridge is SN9C120 which is same for driverid 0×6148 also
here the sensor is ADCM6211/ADCM1700 i guess, but for 0×6148 its OM6802 which r differnet..and i dont know what is that 0×34 ..i need to analize whole code and libusb…

output is viewed using cheese…
need to test on other pids also…

Hi Srivastha,

I too got same problem . My webcam works but images are so dim so that I cant even recognize my face. When i go closer or reduce the light around webcam images seems little better. But I didn’t found v4l-dvb directory in my home ( since I didn’t explicitly install it ) can you please suggest me a way to overcome this .

Model : Microdia PC Camera (SN9C201 + OV7660)

Thanks in advance ..

hi guys,
I have karmic as my OS, i have a problem with installing glade 2.12.2
i have read that karmic doesnt support glade 2 anymore.
but i really need to work using glade 2…
